Around 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement report they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then located many other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations suggest the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; authorities are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials stated they were working "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the community for tips.
An important political figure commented the incident left him without words and had to be solved promptly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on online, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a assailant targeting residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
